As Snoopy would write, "It was a dark and stormy night . . ." While bad weather loomed, there was a lot of joy inside Public Craft Brewing Co. on March 30, 2016 as zinesters gathered for the monthly Beer & Zines draw-in/write-in happening. March's theme was "What if you're wrong," allowing the artists/authors to interpret the phrase as their imagination directed. Join us for the next Beer & Zines on Wednesday, April 27th, 6:30-9:00 pm. The first issue of Moss Piglet will be released on March 30, 2016, and here's a sneak preview of one of its pages, created by Chet Griffith at the February edition of Beer & Zines. Check out more of his art at Chet Griffith Art.
What's a moss piglet, you may ask? Well, it's a durable micro-animal, a Minnesota-based bluegrass band, and the name of a Kenosha/Racine area zine, created each month at the Beer & Zines happening in downtown Kenosha. You can help create a page for Moss Piglet by visit Public Craft Brewing Co, 716 58th Street, Kenosha, WI on the final Wednesday of each month, 6:30-9 pm. If you're under 21, bring along an adult who is 21 or older. $2 covers cost of printing Moss Piglet.
While we're making plans for Kenosha's first Zine Fest (August 13, 2016 at ArtWorks), our big neighbor to the south is holding its giant affair in Chicagoland on April 29-30, 2016. Check out their website HERE and make plans to visit Chicago Zine Fest.
Jessie Lynn McMains (aka Rust Belt Jessie), Racine Poet Laureate and long-time, fabulous zinester, shows off the Kenosha Distro, located inside ArtWorks, 5002 Seventh Avenue, Kenosha, WI. The distro holds zines from near and far with new titles added regularly. Zine makers/publishers earn 65% of retail sales. Got a zine to sell? Call (262) 652-5911 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Better yet, stop by and say hello.
Kenosha/Racine zinesters collaborated in January/February, 2016 to create this zine, "My Celebrity Crush." Rather than allow each of them to wax poetic about their favorite celebrity, names of famous folk were drawn at random and paired with each of the zinesters. Get a copy of this zine at our distro inside ArtWorks, 5002 Seventh Avenue, Kenosha, WI.
The Kenosha/Racine Area Zine Makers group invites artists and authors of all abilities to join them in Downtown Kenosha on Wednesday, March 30, 206 for Beer & Zines, a fun, collaborative, creative event at Public Craft Brewing Co., 716 58th St., Kenosha, WI. Participants create work based on this month's theme, "What if you're wrong?" They can interpret this phrase subtly or overtly, however they please, through drawings, collage, prose or poetry. No RSVP required. Cost is $2 to cover printing costs. Everyone's contribution goes into a zine called Moss Piglet. Copies of it are distributed at next month's Beer & Zines event. If you're under 21, you'll need to bring an adult who is 21 or older.
We're making zines: They can be photocopied manifestos of your borderline sociopathic babblings, or perfect bound, full color, pop-up, limited edition, hand-embellished, bound with Corinthian leather, collections of your cat pics. Your zines can be produced by yourself or in collaboration with other zinesters. We have our very own zine distro at our gallery, 4615 Seventh Avenue, Kenosha, where you can make some walking-around money. For a Zine 101, visit ZineWiki.com
