For our October 2016 issue of Moss Piglet, Kenosha/Racine artists and authors were asked to share something about their favorite Allen (Alan). Who knew that the humble Allen Wrench would be so popular?
Head to downtown Kenosha this Wednesday, September 28, 2016 for the September version of Beer & Zines. At this event, you'll create something in art, prose and/or poetry tied to this month's theme: My Favorite Alan (Allen). You might pay tribute to Alan Alda or Karen Allen or Allen Ginsberg. You get the idea. The fun begins at 6:30 pm and runs until 9 o'clock. All abilities welcome and encouraged. $2 pay printing costs for our collaborative zine, Moss Piglet. Those who create work and pay their two bucks will receive a copy of the zine at next month's event. Beer & Zines always happens on the final Wednesday of the month. PHOTO CHALLENGE: Can you spot the Moss Piglet amongst the lovelies in the group photo?
Bid farewell to those hazy, crazy days of summer. Lift a glass with us (along with your pen or brush) as we celebrate central air conditioning and enjoy another Beer & Zines art and writing meet-up. Our theme this month is "Jesus & Dinosaurs." Interpret as you wish. Paper will be provided. Bring your own supplies. $2.00 covers printing costs (well, sort of.) The work created on this night of Wednesday, August 31st at Public Craft Brewing Co. in downtown Kenosha will be lovingly assembled into an eye-catching zine and printed just for you (and everyone else who participates.) Sound like fun? Join us! Confused? Join us! Thirsty? Join us! We'll be there from 6:30-9:00 pm.
Thank you to Heather Poyner and Kenosha News for promoting the 1st Kenosha Zine Fest, held on August 13, 2016 at ArtWorks in Kenosha and for Kevin Poirier from Kenosha News for attending our event and snapping the photos below.
Summer is hot pink at Public Craft Brewing Co. when zinesters fill the tables to draw and write their way to another edition of the Moss Piglet zine. Want to be a part of this happening affair? You'll need to be age 21 or accompanied by someone who's 21 or older. You'll need $2 (these zines don't print themselves for free, you know.) Bring your own art and writing supplies. Paper provided (but feel free to bring your own.) Create something according to this month's theme: Make Disco Great Again. Put on your boogie shoes and disco dance your way downtown!
We're making zines: They can be photocopied manifestos of your borderline sociopathic babblings, or perfect bound, full color, pop-up, limited edition, hand-embellished, bound with Corinthian leather, collections of your cat pics. Your zines can be produced by yourself or in collaboration with other zinesters. We have our very own zine distro at our gallery, 4615 Seventh Avenue, Kenosha, where you can make some walking-around money. For a Zine 101, visit ZineWiki.com
